Anti-Titan Artillery

Overview

Anti-Titan Artillery encompasses the large-caliber cannons and armored gun platforms developed both within Paradis Island and by foreign nations like Marley to combat Titan threats. The Wall-mounted cannons represent Paradis's primary static defense, positioned at regular intervals along the tops of the Walls and capable of firing solid shot and explosive shells at approaching Titans. Marley developed more advanced anti-Titan artillery technology, including armored trains with rotating turrets and coastal defense batteries designed to counter Titan shifters during naval invasions. The evolution of anti-Titan artillery reflects the broader technological arms race between Paradis and Marley, as both sides sought more effective ways to neutralize Titan threats without relying solely on Titan shifters or ODM gear.

Function

Anti-Titan Artillery serves to defend Walls, fortifications, and strategic positions from Titan attacks by delivering high-kinetic-energy projectiles capable of staggering or killing Titans at range. The Paradis Wall cannons, while powerful, have significant limitations: they are fixed-position weapons with slow reload times and limited traverse, making them vulnerable to surprise attacks from fast-moving Titans. Marley's more advanced artillery features better mobility and rate of fire, with specially designed shells that can penetrate Titan hardening. During the Marleyan invasion of Paradis, armored train artillery proved highly effective against Paradis's coastal defenses, suppressing Titan shifters and conventional forces alike. The most powerful anti-Titan artillery could destroy multiple Titans with a single well-aimed shot, though accuracy against smaller Titan shifters remained a persistent challenge even for experienced artillery crews.

Users

The Garrison Regiment operates and maintains the Wall-mounted artillery batteries across all three Walls, with dedicated artillery corps trained in cannon operation, aiming, and ammunition handling. Marley's artillery is operated by its regular army's artillery divisions, who train extensively in anti-Titan gunnery doctrine developed through decades of warfare against enemy nations' Titan shifters. The Mid-East Allied Forces developed specialized anti-Titan artillery that proved capable of challenging even the Nine Titans, destroying several of Marley's Titan shifters during the war and forcing Marley to accelerate their search for the Founding Titan's power. Skilled artillery spotters coordinate with gun crews to lead fast-moving Titan targets, using the Titans' predictable movement patterns to land devastating shots that can cripple or kill even the largest abnormal Titans.
